Isolation

Ren Lingfei

Looking back at the present, my life has undergone a drastic cut since the outbreak. With the vaccination and economic recovery, the course of my life seems to be slowly getting back on track, but my attitude towards life and my perception of the world have completely changed. In 'Isolation / fragment 1-15', close-ups of the missing spaces and objects in my life project my emotions - loneliness, frustration, disappointment, anxiety and disorientation. This sense of isolation comes not only from the disruption of old habits through home isolation, but also from the unease of the changing international political situation and the powerlessness of the individual in the face of events sweeping across the globe. The work also explores the illusion of two-dimensional images of space as a simulation of the three-dimensional world. In the aftermath of the epidemic, we seem to have become accustomed to moving our social interactions online, using screens to help us communicate with the world virtually.
